Research assistant for the Social Wellbeing Indicators for Marine Management Interdisciplinary Project. This project is a multi-sectoral and multi-institutional effort to develop social indicators to be incorporated into the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Integrated Ecosystem Assessment of the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem. This project has staff from NOAA, Washington Sea Grant, and the University of Washington School of Marine Environmental Affairs. Working group members are drawn from other universities, Tribes, NGO's, and the public sector. Products under development are a suite of indicators for use in marine and coastal management, as well as collaborative contributions to the literature of human well being in social-ecological systems, human's place in ecosystems, and the role of social science in natural resources management.

Peace Corps Volunteer, environment sector, Jamaica. Environmental work focused on marine ecology conservation education and outreach for Jamaica's youth. Extended service for seven months to facilitate partnership between Peace Corps Jamaicaand US Federal Agency National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to develop curricular program for teaching marine debris mitigation to Jamaican schoolchildren and fishermen. Curriculum given to Jamaican Ministry of Education and NOAA Office of Response and Restoration. Collaborated with two other Peace Corps Volunteers to write a children’s book on invasive Lionfish. "Bully on the Reef" published and distributed to Jamaica’s schools by the Environmental Fund of Jamaica. Conducted Lionfish eradication workshops for fishing communities on northeast coast of Jamaica with host NGO Portland Environmental Protection Association. Partnered with University of the West Indies to develop interpretive center at the Port Royal Marine Laboratory. Work included building and plumbing saltwater aquaria and touch tank, stocking aquaria with fish, developing interpretive materials and methods, creating training materials and manuals for all aquaria systems, delivering workshops and guided tours of Kingston Harbour to over 1000 students, teachers, and members of conservation groups. Taught remedial literacy and numeracy to children ages 7-12 in Moore Town’s community school.

Internship Program Coordinator at the Seattle satellite office of the Boston based Environmental Careers Organization. Developed land management projects in collaboration with the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management. Recruited paid interns to complete projects ranging from 3 months to 2 years. Portfolio included over 40 interns working in 7 states at over 20 project sites. Established project financial frameworks using both GSA competitive contracting and non-competitive agreement methods. Total project funding secured over course of employment exceeded 1.9 million USD.
