Rachel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) and the Associate Director of Scientific and Technological Research at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT). She completed her BS and MS in Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University, where she was actively involved with the Audio Enthusiasts and Engineers group, focused on audio project design and development.In 2016, she earned her PhD at ÉTS in Montréal, specializing in speech signal processing and communication enhancement for intra-aural technologies. Her postdoctoral work furthered her interest in in-ear signal monitoring, resulting in a patented technology that has earned awards such as ÉTS’s 'Most Promising Invention Award,' the Mitacs NRC-IRAP 'Award for Commercialization,' and Québec Science’s 'Invention of the Year Award.'Rachel's research interests are in signal processing, speech, hearing, machine learning, and health monitoring. Her current projects include speech production for hearing impaired talkers, respiration and heart rate monitoring with hearables, as well as early disease detection of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's with wearables. Her work is supported by grants from NSERC, Mitacs, and FRQ. She is the lab director of Research in Hearing, Health and Assistive Devices (RHAD) Lab and holds Marcelle Gauvreau Engineering Research Chair.
