About Bob Cline

Years of experience has taught me that my passion is all things development, whether it be personal, people, teams, programs, products, companies, or brands. Much of that time was spent in a supervisory role managing teams of varying size; all focused on lead generation, budget management and account management. Additionally, I was also highly focused on operations – with focus on hiring strategies and processes, talent acquisition for new locations, process development for streamlining workflow to achieve key performance indicators, performance evaluation and e-commerce platform migration and evolution.I have extensive experience working with institutions of higher-learning, which has been an area of interest since I was in college where I took extensive coursework in education combined with substantial coursework in music. In my role at Pearson, I worked with approximately a dozen academic institutions including The George Washington University, University of Arizona and Northeastern University across dozens of degree programs. My team fourteen marketing professionals four of whom were direct reports.Over the last four years, I have expanded my areas of expertise into retail and commerce by joining my partner’s business, Your Best Face Skincare, full-time to work on development of the company brand, revenue growth, and customer acquisition. In that time, I oversaw our migration to a more cost-effective and user-friendly e-commerce platform, contributed to an 20% increase in our customer base, and a year-over-year increase in revenue of 26%.Beyond business, I enjoy reading. In non-fiction, I have a particular interest in moral psychology and organizational psychology. In fiction, I am a constant reader of Stephen King’s and Brandon Sanderson's works. I also am an active musician in the Twin Cities (playing clarinet with various orchestras and concert bands), amateur baker, and board gamer.

    London, Gb
As a Marketing Director, I functioned as the lead strategic and operational lead for a marketing group whose primary goal was in serving online degree programs delivered through a portfolio comprised of 9 university partners and over 40 unique degree programs. My day-to-day was focused primarily on working with a cross-functional leadership team toward a goal of fulfilling our brand promise and achieving/exceeding budgeted goals for our client programs. In this senior role, I managed a team of Associate Directors and Marketing Managers, providing them support and advocacy while also driving them toward promised metrics and key performance indicators. With this team I oversaw the development of annual marketing plan and provided guidance on communication of these plans to academic partners. I also worked with this team on development and coaching of marketing personnel throughout our location. In working with cross-functional leadership (account management, sales, retention, marketing, HR, IT, Course Development), I served as the lead marketing representative on all budget-planning, client contract renewals, and goal setting. Additionally, I was the strategic marketing lead alongside cross-functional leadership on all mission-critical client visits designed to identify opportunity, advance trust, and secure further business.I worked within a marketing leadership team designed to address the advancement and evolution of the overall marketing department by defining key strategic priorities as well as outlining and propelling key performance indicators across the department with my fellow marketing director colleagues. • Pearson
    Associate Director, Marketing
    Pearson Jul 2011 - May 2016
    London, Gb
As an Associate Director, I served as the account management lead for my portfolio of academic partners for five years. My day-to-day consisted of working with internal teams (media, analytics, creative, etc) to see the successful execution of strategic plans for partner degree programs. In this role, I was the unit lead on two new degree program launches, a series of graduate certificates, and one new academic partner launch. I have also drove the full relaunch of all creative assets for the remainder of my portfolio the results of which were the doubling of all high-quality inquiry sources.I also had the opportunity to lead and develop a team of marketing manager whose responsibility was to drive the tactical effort behind each degree program strategy. In partnership, we worked to identify development opportunities and to define their career trajectories with Pearson. On an annual basis, I worked with leadership to discuss, debate and determine targets for the upcoming year. I then defined the strategies for each degree program that would drive to each goal and with the marketing managers developed an annual plan.Over time I developed a strong ability to manage up as well as down. Maintaining transparency, clearing obstacles for the marketing team, and advocating for the appropriate resources were all critical operational functions that were part of my day-to-day.Reporting was also a steady component of my work - I provided weekly updates on critical metrics, partner relationship status, and project updates to leadership. Part of my reporting function included being the marketing lead at steering committee meetings with academic partners. In my time in this role, I had the unique opportunity to be a key contributor to the hiring process within multiple office. As our group grew I participated in the hiring of over twenty new members of the marketing team and was a direct contributor to the onboarding of five, including two on my own team.
  • Pearson
    Marketing Manager
    Pearson Jul 2008 - Jul 2011
    London, Gb
My time as a marketing manager role was spent working directly with academic partners and driving the tactical plans for my portfolio. My core responsibilities were a combination of account management and campaign management. On the account management side I worked on a tactical basis with partners to determine specific key program features to highlight in the development of new assets. These efforts sometimes followed traditional paths, such as using images of students and teachers to drive interest in education programs to more eclectic paths, such as using images of notable criminals such as Charles Manson or Bernie Madoff to drive interest in criminology degree programs. My greatest achievement in this role was driving marketing campaigns that resulted in over 900 students in a single degree program. On a daily basis I provided updated reporting to my supervisor and managing director on the status of campaigns as well as a partner relationship status update as needed. I served as the marketing representative for weekly calls with my academic partners as well.As part of my tactical effort, partnering with the media and creative teams was critical. Following the lead of my supervisor, I provided the footwork needed to keep programs on track, including, initial review and editing, internal and external approvals, and in some cases creative and copy recommendations to suit the specific needs of our campaigns. My efforts as a marketing manager culminated during a merger between Compass Knowledge Group and Embanet. During the course of this merger I was tasked to lead the training and development of two new marketing teams in our Toronto-based office. My work with these groups included training in campaign development, reporting, and how to function in their newly defined roles. As a result of my efforts I was promoted to Associate Director. During this time I also moved back to Minneapolis and began working remotely.
  • Pearson
    Senior Production Manager
    Pearson Mar 2007 - Jun 2008
    London, Gb

My direct responsibilities was to project manage campaign efforts, including creative, approvals, and implementation with media partners.During this time I also managed a team of Production Managers. I eventually worked to train and merge the production team into the marketing team where we all were promoted to Marketing Managers.

    Account Coordinator
    Cenveo Apr 2006 - Feb 2007
    Stamford, Ct, Us
As Account Coordinator with Cenveo, I provided support to our clients, Ameriprise and American Express. My role here was focused on meeting regularly with clients (both face-to-face and via conference line) to discuss specific projects that they were developing and to provide print solutions for those projects.Though I was only in this role a short time before I moved to another state, I had the opportunity to participate in the launch of the Ameriprise Bank and, with multiple teams at Ameriprise, developed print assets for internal and external facing stakeholders promoting the bank and its products.
  • Pgi Companies
    Project Manager
    Pgi Companies Jul 2004 - Feb 2006
    Us
My first steady job out of college! I landed this role after serving as a temp receptionist for a week while PGI’s permanent receptionist was vacationing in Mazatlán. A month after my temp work, I received a call from a recruiter and just a couple weeks after that I was sitting down for my first day of work at PGI.PGI was a lot of fun, I had the opportunity to work on some very interesting accounts. My role on these accounts was to work with the sale representative and the client alike to drive the production of direct mail and print efforts. During this time, I worked with some very cool companies, such as The Lacek Group, Starwood, Nestlé, The Arts Institutes, and GoNext. Many of the projects I worked on were complex from a direct mail perspective with some multi-million piece mailings requiring unique packaging and postage considerations.Once a project was landing by the sales representative I took over as primary contact with our clients to work through production considerations and needs and to provide cost estimates and determine key production deadlines.
