Over the years since I first set myself up on a Linux box back in 2002, I've fallen deeply in love with open source software.My motivations are varied, but usually, I hack for the challenge, as well as to know that I'm creating useful things that can delight potentially millions of people worldwide. I also really like tinkering to try improve performance everywhere I can.I was one of the core contributors to InspIRCd, an effort to create an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) daemon from the ground up. InspIRCd is now one of the most used applications in its space (in both public and business environments), and is well liked for its extensibility.More recently, I've been heavily involved with Qt (https://www.qt.io/developers/), becoming one of the first external contributors to gain approver status in 2012. In 2016, I was nominated to become one of the maintainers for the QtQuick user interface framework.My other speciality is Linux - I previously maintained Qt (along with many other pieces of software) in a small, extremely portable/hackable Linux core for building products with (Mer). I also contributed large amounts of code, time, and expertise to the Nemo Mobile project - an effort to create an open source mobile device for everyone.

Providing Qt expertise & skilled software engineering services consultancy.In September 2016, I joined forces with a close friend to start Crimson AS, continuing the same work in partnership together.

Making mobile more magical.I helped to create Sailfish OS (and subsequently, use it to ship the Jolla).Particularly noteworthy things:* Developed the initial prototype & architecture for the homescreen and several other applications on the device (such as Contacts, Calendar).* Successfully lead the effort to transition away from Qt 4 (and X11) to Qt 5 and Wayland, including maturization of both.* Improved application performance, responsiveness, and startup time.* Developed tooling to aid in system analysis to aid performance investigations and problem diagnosis.* Regularly work with the Qt Project to resolve issues we have (or send patches we have upstream).

Working with C++ and Qt on mobile platform and applications, including work on the UI & surrounding framework for people & contacts on the Nokia N9.Also involved in experimental work porting Qt 5 to Android.

Understanding, consolidating, and extending an existing codebase to meet requirements and exceed them where possible. Included some lower level work on the stack to troubleshoot performance problems and coordination of teamwork.

One of the earliest developers to join the project, I helped nurture it to grow to become one of the most used, extensible, daemons in its field. Encouraged and grew the developer and user community through active evangelism and outreach work.
