Poster presentation at the 2020 National Veterinary Scholars Symposium (zoo and exotics medicine session)Project title: Anesthetic efficacy of alfaxalone-dexmedetomidine combination with either hydromorphone or fentanyl in ferretsObjective: This study investigates an alfaxalone-based injectable anesthetic protocol to provide veterinarians and biomedical researchers with 40 minutes of general anesthesia for procedures or surgeries in ferrets.Hypothesis: We hypothesize that an alfaxalone-based protocol may be used safely in ferrets with stable surgical anesthetic depth, smooth induction and recovery, and minimal cardiorespiratory depression.

Project title: A comparison between intramuscular administration of alfaxalone, dexmedetomidine in combination with either butorphanol or midazolam as an anesthetic protocol in ferrets

Project title: Use of alfaxalone, a novel neurosteroid anesthetic, as an alternative anesthetic protocol in ferrets

▪Provided a thorough pre-award review of federal NIH and nonfederal grant applications to ensure application accuracy in meeting the funding opportunity announcement requirements and conformance with institute regulations, Federal OMB, State, and agency guidelines before submission. ▪Effective as a resource and guide for PIs, Postdocs, Fellows, and department contacts by conducting an in-depth analysis of their proposal application to determine completeness, compliance, and precision of multi-million-dollar budgets before submission to all federal and nonfederal sponsors.▪Created training documents/presentations for faculty and staff when onboarding a new system.

▪Provided a detailed pre-award review of NIH applications with modular budgets to ensure accuracy and compliance with university policy and funding announcement requirements.▪Served as co-lead design and developer of the SPO external website (hssppo.ucsd.edu).▪Created trainings/presentations for Contacts meetings, ePD system onboarding, and fellowship presentations.▪Work leader and assisted in training and supervision of Grant Assistant and two student workers.

▪Empathized with hospitalized patients and served as a resource to help them enroll in medical insurance and find government and community resources to help them get back on their feet.
