Profile bio

About Robert C. Brown, Ph.D.

My experience includes 23+ years of progressive leadership experience in complex organizational administration. I enjoy working for organizations that make a positive difference in society where my analytical approach to decision-making and strategic planning can benefit others. College student affairs work has fostered my high emotional quotient and penchant for developing relationships based on trust, integrity and respect. My collaborative leadership style encourages staff and has helped me establish partnerships, streamline operations, save money without downsizing staff, and evaluate and assess programs with a customer centered focus.Housing work allowed me the opportunity to develop, forecast, and manage organizational budgets exceeding $24 million annually of public funds. I managed relationships with multiple third-party vendors, issued, renewed and terminated contractual relationships as necessary to responsibly manage funds and follow procurement regulations while not reducing services to customers. I assessed inherited delayed construction projects and created new solutions to overcome delays, to preserve university assets, and to complete projects on-time and significantly under budget. There were nearly 350 employees and over 4,000 students under my leadership during the initial years of the pandemic. We successfully facilitated an expedited early campus move-out in less than two weeks. We developed communications, logistics, redesigned the move-in process, and modified housing guidelines due to health mandates. This fast-paced time required extreme flexibility and the nimbleness to pivot as circumstances changed on a weekly basis. Despite the turmoil and strife, we responded to the complex needs of students and staff, while maintaining an environment conducive to students’ academic success and needs. In my career, I have developed training sessions, presented leadership programs, and planned numerous staff retreats. I have analyzed, developed, revised and enforced organizational policies. The policy changes I presented to governing boards were ratified, and I have presented to internal and external constituent groups on a series of topics both controversial and mundane. Finally, I have redesigned organization structures and staffing, oversaw the installation of database software at multiple institutions, organizing structures, communications, access restrictions, and managing the database after installation, which was used to maintain and report student conduct data according to federal regulations.

I manage the day-to-day operations of UK Housing with 14 beautiful buildings, housing 6,850 beds, and nearly 2.5 million gross square feet of facilities. Together, we achieve established budgeted financial and operational goals, and ensure we comply with Greystar policies, procedures, Fair Housing, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and other laws and regulations governing multi-family housing operations.I provide input into the development of the property budgets by analyzing and evaluating financial statements and reviewing operational reports that establish historic and predict performance patterns.I approve invoices from vendors, contractors, and service providers for payment by reconciling work performed or products purchased.I establish relationships with the appropriate residence life and auxiliary services officials and others affiliated with UK, by staying informed about policies that may impact the community and residents, developing policies and guidelines for residents, communicating regularly with university representatives, and ensuring the community’s compliance with pertinent regulations. This work promotes resident satisfaction and retention by responding to complaints, questions, and requests in a timely manner, and taking appropriate action to resolve and address service issues. I ensure our maintenance team members comply with Greystar's standards with respect to responding and completing service requests. We conduct regular property inspections and take appropriate actions to ensure that the physical aspects of the property, grounds, buildings, and amenities meet established standards for safety, cleanliness, and general appearance and appeal.
