Became rector after St James had voted to leave the Episcopal Diocese of LA. They were already engaged in a lawsuit over the defense of the property. Raised $3.5 million to fight the lawsuit. When it was lost, led the congregation through their decision not to appeal, leave the property, and use various temporary locations for over two years. Concomitantly, led the parish through the grief and renewal process, as well as casting vision for future ministry. Found appropriate semi-permanent rental space, raised $500,000 for reordering the property, and led renewed ministry in the new location. Celebrated this renewed ministry at the 75th birthday of St James. Finally, planned, searched for, called, and added a Young Family Pastor to the staff.In the wider church, served on the Diocesan Executive Committee and as teaching faculty in the School for Deacons, Diocese of Western Anglicans. Responsible for ten ministry programs in the Discipleship area of one of the largest, most dynamic and mission-oriented congregations in ECUSA (since Dec 2006, in CANA). Oversaw 38 full and part-time staff with a budget of approximately $1.2 million: Truro Preschool, Children’s Ministry and Nursery, Junior and Senior High Youth Ministry, College, Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Adult Education, and Library. Coordinated Northern Virginia’s Trinity Extension Ministry (adjunct faculty of Trinity School for Ministry), and supervised seminarians from Virginia Seminary. Developed the promotion of a church-wide ‘Discipleship Culture’.Outside of the church, was Chair of the Commission on Church Planting for Diocese of VA (2003-7): at one time, one of the most missional Diocesan ventures and oversaw projects at various stages, from basic idea to a new, established, healthy congregation. Was part of the Truro AAC team to General Conventions in 2000, 2003, 2006. Participated in or led International mission trips to Kenya, 2003 and Ukraine, 2006. Developed a staff team with lay volunteers. Raised funds to support a full-time Youth Minister, who with his team of lay volunteers, developed a ministry reaching many young people. Taught “Good News down the Street”, “Life in the Spirit”, and “Contagious Christianity” seminars. Developed the Lay Ministry, especially a team of Lay Preachers.In the community, was Chair of Council Bluffs Ministerial Association 1999, Co-Chair of ‘Gambusters’: Community organization to fight legalized gambling [5 TV interviews in 1 day!], the Elks Club ‘Minister of Year’ in 1996, a Police Chaplain, and a licensed Foster Parent, State of Iowa. Took in five teenagers for varying amounts of time (6 wk-18 mo).
