Customer service is the cornerstone for everything. Treating others as you would expect to be treated, is the foundation of everything. While in the banking sector, I respected my customers by giving them my sole attention. This happened while I did not fit the standard banking profile, having long hair and a goatee. Despite those differences, customers grew to understand I was there for them and their needs, establishing relationships lasting well past my banking career.Leadership is very important, regardless the side you happen to be on. I learned much over my career, good and bad. I learned caring and compassion from a previous leader as we worked on the next steps in my career path, paying it forward with two fellow employees. I learned how not to treat people, as I and many others were on the receiving end of bad leadership, never forgetting how actions create lasting impressions. Seeing the success of the group through their hard work, is all the recognition I need.Learning will always be a passion of mine. I enjoy the process starting at the beginning, having no clue where to start, and arriving at the end, satisfied. These opportunities build so many skills outside the obvious needed to complete the project. A leader learns much from those they lead, a lesson I will never forget.Taking the path less travelled is something everyone should do more often. I would not be half the person I am today, if I have not tried, failed, tried again, and failed again. There is no shame in making mistakes. Taking ownership for those mistakes and making them right is where the real lessons are learned. You will only grow if you fail.Being active in the community. The skills learned are not only used in my career but in my community. I served as president of our neighborhood association for several years. While I am no longer President, I still actively participate growing the community I live in.I owned and managed several investment properties over the course of many years. I learned much during those first years. I thoroughly enjoy working on home restoration projects, learning the skills and knowledge needed restoring homes to their former grandeur. I am currently tackling my largest project, restoration of our Dempwolf home, from former three unit apartment to gorgeous Victorian home.
