Freelance Technical Writer
Independent Distributor Of Flow Injection Analysis Instruments
Outline: FIALab Instruments is a small, Seattle based, company that develops and fabricates a range of precision instruments for analysis of chemical samples. Padi Divemaster And Assistant To Scuba Instruction
As a Divemaster I led groups of pleasure divers on 2-4 dives per day; It was my responsibility to ensure the safety of groups in transit to and from the dive sites as well as on the dives themselves. Planning for each dive needed to take into account many factors including: multiple divers of differing ability, local conditions and the complexities of individual dive sites, potential for rapid change in sea state on the surface, tailored response plans in the event of accident or injury. I was able to use my knowledge of marine flora and fauna to add layers of interest to the dives. At the end of each dive I assisted with the maintenance of dive equipment and then debriefed divers on what we had seen and done. It was also my responsibility to assist in the training of divers seeking certification. Additionally, I helped develop the dive shops' business by offering a free snorkel tour of the bay (every morning at 7am) to any new comers to the island. This proved to be a reliable way of bringing in paying customers who otherwise may have gone to one of the other 7 dive shops.Key Skills- Leadership - Leading groups of divers requires constant vigilance due to the steaks being so high should something go wrong. For this reason it is necessary to be prepared and competent to deal with any emergent situation and at the same time engender the confidence and interest of the divers in your group. This is best done by layering preparations to minimize risks and by clearly and concisely communicating to members of the group what to expect and what is expected of them.- Communication: Non-verbal underwater and verbal during dive briefings and debriefings.- Problem Solving: Many students needed different approaches to certain topics and skills.- First Aid Skills - Standard first aid but expanded to cover situations specific to diving, it's associated hazards and the difficulties of giving care in the water or on an unstable platform such as a ship.
