Robert C. MacDougall is a professor of Media Studies in the Communication Department at Curry College in Milton, MA. His teaching and research centers on the cognitive, social, and epistemological roles played by communication media and technology today and through history. His first book, "Cultural Technics: making meaning at the interfaces of oral and electronic culture" (Verlag, 2009) investigates the use of email by a group of Mohawk Indians. His second book, "Digination: identity, organization and public life in the age of small digital devices and big digital domains" (Fairleigh-Dickinson University Press), and first edited volume entitled "Drugs and Media: new perspectives on communication, consumption and consciousness" (Continuum) were both published in 2012. A second edited collection published in 2015 is entitled "Communication and Control: tools, systems and new dimensions" (Lexington). He is the author of numerous journal articles and book chapters related to organizational communication, communication theory, rhetoric, the history and philosophy of science, cognitive science, neuroscience, and new media, including investigations incorporating the use of EEG technology to understand some of the interactions, effects and side-effects associated with multimedia use. An ongoing project involves articulating a biological approach to understanding human-technology interfaces.
