Powertrain Engineer
I perform engine calibrations using an eddy current Dyno on small two stroke air cooled engines ranging from 35cc to 215cc. HFE designs and manufactures electronic fuel injection (EFI) systems for these engines. I design and execute optimization experiments for each engine EFI systems using Dyno and national instruments DAQ hardware, resulting in operating temperature specifications, optimized spark timing table, and optimized volumetric efficiency tables. I write applications using MATLAB to analyze data acquired from dyno tests. These applications produce power/torque vs. speed curves, BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption) curves, part throttle power/torque curves, along with data mining to analyze engine performance trends. I write procedure documents for engine testing and validation. I work closely with production technicians and design engineers to pinpoint areas to improve the EFI system.
R&D Contractor
I designed electro-mechanical assemblies using Altium designer and Solidworks, that integrated printed circuit boards into aluminum enclosures . I worked with sales and management to align product designs to business goals and customer expectations. I produced prototype circuits and used in house 3D printers to produce proof of concept mechanical prototypes. I was responsible for applying both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering principals to develop innovative products that meet the clients functional requirements, and adhered to NeuroNexus's lean manufacturing philosophy. I was responsible for creating mechanical drawings and electrical schematics to be used by production technicians during manufacturing. I worked closely with outsourced machine shops and printed circuit board manufactures to ensure the products were manufactured within acceptance criteria in a cost effective manner. I was also responsible for presenting capital equipment investment cases. Each piece of equipment was purchased to increase internal manufacturing and prototyping capabilities, with the goal of increasing throughput and decreasing costs.Product Development SpecificMy responsibilities included designing printed circuit boards for prototype, custom, and new products using Altium designer and working closely with PCB manufactures to ensure each board was manufactured to the correct specifications and quality standards. If needed I was responsible for using Solidworks to design enclosures, supporting accessories, or surgical tools to enable our clients to successfully use our standard or customized products during their experiments.
