I am a Madrid-based medical oncologist with extensive experience in breast & sarcoma treatmet, cancer genetics & family counseling, clinical investigation, drug regulation and oncology forensics.I joined Puerta de Hierro University Hospital back in 1995 , where I currently serve as assistant physician for patients with sarcoma and breast cancer, taking part in many clinical trias as PI.Since 2018, I am head of MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid Sarcoma Unit and Hereditary Cancer & Genetic Counseling Program.Most of my clinical and research activity is focused on sarcomas, a field in which I trained at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, NYC, in 2004. I frequently lecture at various Spanish, European, and Latin American forums. Between 2007-17 I was a member of Grupo Español de Investigación en Sarcomas (GEIS) Director's Board. I also leadered a Multidisciplinary Sarcoma Traveling Course that provided specialized training in Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Pakistan, and Lebanon during 2017-18, Finally, In 2018 I set up the International Musculoskeletal Tumors Master at the European University of Madrid, still ongoingI am deeply involved in science communication. From 2000 to 2011, I served as an advisor and editor for cancer-related matters on the health website of El Mundo newspaper. I have published two books devoted to the general public: "101 questions about cancer" (La Esfera de los Libros, 2007) and "The transparent organ. The inteligence of your immune system" (Larousse, 2023). I also broadcasted two podcast series: "Vaccines" (ElExtraordinario, 2022) and "Your superbody" (Sonora, 2022), the later intended for the infantile audience. Another area of my activity involves the evaluation and approval of new drugs. Since 2004, I have been a Designated Expert for the European Medicines Agency (EMA), where I have participated in the market access of some of the most important cancer drugs approved in Europe over the last decade. I also served as an expert advisor for the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) and the Health Department of the Autonomous Community of Madrid. In 2021 I was chosen as a permanent member of EMA's Oncology Scientific Advisory Group (SAG).As a forensic expert, my services are frequently requested in trials related to cancer patient care by the National Court, the High Court of Justice of Madrid, and several other courts across Spain.
