Founded IDEA along with several partner companies. Started the Live Action Working Group to study capture, coding, and distribution of holographic images derived from the real world.

I founded Visby in 2015 to develop a new technology for holographic imaging — a new way of creating, compressing, and displaying holographic light fields for future displays (virtual reality, augmented reality, and holographic panels).I raised over $3m in seed funding during the VR winter and navigated Visby to be cashflow neutral despite a negative external climate (including covid). We built tech for producing photorealistic images for holographic displays — images that look better than those produced by companies with orders of magnitude more funding.

I ran the business unit that produced forward motion video footage for Indoorcycling Group international. We had three filmmakers in house and a network of freelancers, contractors, and consultants.

I produced virtual trail and road ride videos for exercisers (both group cycling and individual cardio workouts). In addition to shooting, I developed all the hardware and software we used to create our products.While at ICG:-Built 10+ custom camera stabilizers for cars and bikes-Wrote >100,000 kLOC in custom video metadata management / stabilization software-Oversaw ~$500k R&D spend on embedded hardware, software, and video equipment development-Integrated IMU-derived GIS data into post pipeline for video stabilization and enhancement-Wrote core algorithms for IMU data smoothing and interpolation

Explored starting several businesses, including:-A novel flow-cytometry hardware startup. Floundered when IP licensing deal with Xerox PARC fell apart late in the game.-A Salesforce.com app company; the company raised minimal funding and continued on without me (they are now happily quite successful).-Considered joining a social media startup, though it was outside my experience. Declined for lack of salary and upside potential.Most importantly, I helped raise my infant son, and spent lots of quality time as a new father. I wouldn't have done it any other way.

Collaborated with partners on new product development and helped raise bridge capital. Concurrent with work as Director of Photography.

Designed and built custom grip equipment, invented novel video stabilization software, invented and patented new stereo 3D conversion technique. Co-developed postproduction workflows and scripts. Filmed over 50 hours of finished content in 5 countries.

Helped Lytro (then Refocus Imaging) strategize regarding professional cinematography market. Consulted on optical design for testing rig, and shot an internal marketing video with prototype Refocus camera. Got to play with their toys for a while, which was awesome.

Filmed music videos, commercials, industrials. Built custom optical rigs for effects shots and lens mount conversions.

Created video content for marketing, PR, and internal use. Created business documents and customer communication. Contributed to business development and market strategy.

Employed 20 cameramen to shoot hundreds of football games, sold thousands of DVDs. Produced NFL-style video with replays, commentary, etc. Built a portfolio of scouting tapes that covered over 90% of the teams in the Central Coast Section.
