Veloxiti was a company in the AI solutions and services space, with a focus on knowledge-based AI systems, but some hybrid systems combining knowledge-based AI and machine learning approaches. It was formerly known as Applied Systems Intelligence.Reporting to the CEO, I was responsible for hands-on development, knowledge design and implementation, development leadership, Agile process definition and customer/backlog management for various projects, including projects in the domains of cybersecurity incident management, financial analysis and healthcare IT. I was also involved with business development, representing Veloxiti at various networking events and conferences. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Technical Delivery, I was responsible for hands-on development, architectural leadership and process definition for development efforts on Tuo, a SaaS application for health insurance sales automation written in C#, ASP.NET MVC and T-SQL and deployed in Microsoft Azure. I directly managed three inhouse developers and coordinated and reviewed the work of two offshore Scrum teams, each comprised of five developers and two QA engineers.

Reporting to the CTO, I managed developers, QA engineers, product owners, UI/UX developers and a Scrum master, making up nineteen direct and indirect reports across two agile teams developing Catalyst, a data collection application for ABA professionals, and Vantage, a practice management suite for ABA practices. Both applications were SaaS applications, and Catalyst also included mobile applications for Android and iOS.* Responsible for all hiring and people development within the engineering organization.* Implemented improvements in communication processes between the engineering and operations portions of the organization.* Coached product owners to improve structure of short-term backlog and long-term roadmap for products.* Coached existing Scrum master and team members to improve Scrum implementation.

Reporting to VP R&D, I directly managed developers spread across six agile teams working on defect resolution and new features for the Compliance360 product line.* Coordinated with other directors, product management, scrum masters and SQA to plan and develop the 2015.2 release. Helped one team reduce a backlog to one-third its original estimate through focus on achieving minimum viable product. Defect rate for release was smallest in three releases.* Took over hiring for all developers in first week – established regular contact with recruiters, added a programming puzzle to pre-interview screening for junior developers and introduced a coding exercise to the on-site interview for mid-level and senior developers.* Established weekly 1-1’s with developers and management peers.* Organized one day exercise to put principles from just-completed book read into practice during first month. Reporting to various VPs and EVPs, I managed developers and managers spread across multiple agile teams, including one remote team (American Fork), that resolved defects for existing What’s Up Gold releases and developed new functionality for future releases. At peak, I had seventeen direct and indirect reports in this role, spread across four agile teams.* Coordinated with other R&D directors, product management, UX and SQA to plan future service packs and releases and to develop processes to improve coordination across functional teams.* Functioned as hiring manager for Alpharetta and American Fork offices.* Hired engineering manager for American Fork office and worked with that manager to culturally integrate the American Fork development team with the development teams in the Alpharetta office.* Appointed as acting chief architect for a six-month time span during search for a replacement after previous chief architect resigned. Organized knowledge transfer sessions from previous chief architect to mitigate loss. Instituted a virtual architecture team comprised of technical experts from across multiple teams to fill the knowledge gap and to facilitate communication of an architectural nature to and from the teams.* Served as acting head of R&D for a two-month time span during transition between VPs of R&D. Led completion of annual budgetary planning. Worked with HR and other leadership to coordinate departure of developers leaving due to voluntary separation plan. * Co-chair of workplace reinvention team. Led the team in an analysis of Ipswitch’s current mission, vision and values, as well as a SWOT analysis focused on the workplace. The results of the analysis were presented first to an executive team and then the company as a whole. The team then provided recommendations for strategic objectives and worked with other teams to build a balanced scorecard. * Performed strategic and budgetary planning for NM R&D with other members of management team.

Joined athenahealth as part of its acquisition of Anodyne Health in October 2009. Reporting to various VPs and C-levels, I functioned as an architect, facilitating product owner and people manager. * Managed full life-cycle development of the Anodyne application suite, including monthly patch releases, using Scrum methodology. Lead monthly meetings with development team and stakeholders to review new functionality and prioritize upcoming work. Lead technical meetings as needed with development team.* Managed full life-cycle development of custom widgets for Anodyne Dashboard, including interaction with clients for requests with high technical or political risk.* Managed full-life-cycle development of miscellaneous other applications for internal use.* Hiring manager for team – built a team of seven developers reporting to me from scratch.* In conjunction with other Anodyne manager’s, launched transition of branding from Anodyne to athenaClarity in conjunction with the 2013 athenahealth User Conference.* Working with Anodyne’s account management team, reduced a $1.375 million dollar revenue recognition backlog to under $150K from June 2010 to December 2010. Worked with other members of the management team to improve the precision of our standard SOWs to mitigate future RR issues.* Working with athenahealth personnel and other Anodyne managers, migrated Anodyne’s server infrastructure into a new facility as both a general contributor to the overall process and with specific responsibility for leading the transition of Anodyne’s application infrastructure.* Performed strategic and fiscal planning, competitive analysis, and monthly business reviews; interact with executives at potential and current clients.* Represented Anodyne at client-facing events, including MGMA and our annual User Conference.
