About Robert Atkinson
I first began my PhD in Feb 2019 focusing on natural products and using them as starting points to develop new pharmaceuticals and treatments for disease. As part of my PhD I focused heavily on chemical synthesis purification. I gained significant experience in chromatography and purification and used spectroscopic techniques like NMR and FTIR. I also developed my skills as a biologist, testing my novel compounds in live cell assays. Following my PhD, I worked with VitalTrace to develop a novel electrochemical sensor. In my role there I worked to develop novel corrosion-resistant coating solutions along with understanding of the sensor. I provided technical reports on my work and communicated those results to senior leadership. In addition, worked to develop the IP of VitalTrace by drafting patents and developing IP management strategies. I also aimed to disseminate my knowledge throughout the company by performing several company level presentations explaining the function of the biosensor. Now I am looking towards developing my skills in materials chemistry, industry, and teaching. I have found an interest in applying novel solutions to industrial problems and I want to develop my skills in that area.
