Feeding Canadian Kids is a registered Canadian charity (Toronto, ON) focused on reducing child food insecurity across Ontario. As Director of Operations at Feeding Canadian Kids (Toronto, ON), I established a tact for leading in a fast-paced start-up environment to iterate and improve upon our program workflow processes. Within this role I learned to harness ambiguity, take charge and communicate objectives clearly. My role was truly as a relationship builder, ensuring all project deliverables and timelines were met effectively. I focused on anticipating the needs of our beneficiaries and nurturing positive, mutually beneficial partnerships with all our community stakeholders, inclusive of the Boys and Girls Club of Canada and Uber Eats, to ensure our after school meal delivery program remained successful each day. As Director of Operations, it was essential that I work with staff, service partners, beneficiaries and volunteers, to commission, implement and assess strategies to lead our organization as well as clarify our strategic goals and outcomes framework. As COVID-19 completely altered our operational model at Feeding Canadian Kids, I resolved to design and deploy our organizational emergency response program, ‘Feeding Canadian Kids at Home’. During this pandemic, this program has served 6,400 meals to families in need. This pivot required new degrees of energy in the solicitation of new community partners to secure monetary, food, physical space, and volunteer labour donations. After proudly securing these essential partners, I was able to ensure the weekly preparation and delivery of nutritious meals for 400 hungry kids in the Greater Toronto Area. This program still runs successfully today.
