I have a great passion for animals and livestock. My extensive small and large farm experience as well as my many years in 4-H & FFA have led me to attend the Ohio State University where I major in Animal Science-Biosciences. I am planning to attend vet school upon receiving my bachelor’s degree. While I have never worked officially for a veterinary hospital, I do have a wide range of experience with livestock. I have shown livestock since the age of nine and been around animals my entire life. I have ten plus years of experience working with animals. Throughout my time showing livestock I have shown pigs, goats, and rabbits. I have also had the opportunity to raise dairy feeders at home for freezer beef. I am well versed in administering shots and performing other treatments, clipping nails/hooves, cleaning pens/stalls, and keeping thorough and accurate records. I have a great relationship with my current vet, and I have learned a lot about proper drug use and animal treatment. I am also well versed in biosecurity and have completed quality assurance training each year since 2014. I am very excited for some of the new experiences I have gained and plan to gain throughout the next couple of months. Over this past summer I consulted families on raising livestock. This was a great experience for me as it allowed me to practice my skills in nutrition, animal care, and animal husbandry. This winter I also have three very exciting opportunities. I will be spending a week in Indiana completing a swine externship where I get to work with veterinarians, farm managers, and other farm staff on a commercial swine farm. I will also be assisting in the calving process at Cedar Lane Farms in Cedarville, OH under the supervision of Jeff Winkle. The final opportunity that I have planned for my winter break entails assisting in the farrowing process at Top Notch Show Pigs under the supervision of Bryan Atley. I feel that these experiences will further improve my animal care and husbandry skills. In addition to my school and livestock responsibilities, I worked part-time throughout high school in the customer service industry. Since coming to Ohio State, I have started working at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. I am currently training under the head lab assistant and plan to take over next fall. My duties include assisting in the embalming process of sixteen ponies and one cow, aiding in dissections, caring for specimens, setting up the lab for daily use, and caring for a dermestid beetle colony.
