About Neil Collier

I am a highly motivated individual possessing very strong organisational, managerial, and interpersonal skills. I am an excellent mentor and trainer who can communicate effectively and concisely at all levels. This, when combined with a strong customer focus enables me to successfully contribute to all business goals. I am also a very ‘hands-on’ individual who is willing to tackle all aspects of a job. I have had a successful career in the UK manufacturing sector, the main focus was manufacturing industrial access and working at height solutions. I then turned my attention to the yacht charter market where I combined my passion for sailing with a reputation for excellence and integrity to run my own yacht charter business and teach sailing. Now I am back managing engineering projects, I am looking to combine my engineering skills and passion for great customer service.

  • Thames Water
    Engineering Project Manager
Thames Water May 2022 - Present
    Greater London, England, United Kingdom
Part of an engineering project management team at Thames Water’s third largest waste treatment works, I am responsible for managing end-to-end delivery of my own portfolio of mechanical, electrical, civil, control and instrumentation projects as well as supporting the team with their projects. For the projects I lead, I am responsible for investigating, and writing the technical scope, managing the tender process which means reviewing the technical and financial bids (up to £5 million p.a.) and managing the delivery of the project from end-to-end which can include design, onsite construction and managing the whole process in accordance with the CDM 2015 regulations whilst maintaining Thames Water’s zero-compromise attitude to health and safety. Upon project completion I oversee the commissioning and handover of the project to the site operations team, Including appropriate training, completion document handover, i.e test certificates, constructed drawings, and updating the Thames Water asset register. Projects examples: - Security upgrade of Thames Water’s third largest waste water treatment plant, inc. planning permission for new buildings, environmental analysis, traffic management and electronic and physical security - Refurbishment of a 90 year old line shaft driven pump connected to a Harland & Wolfe diesel engine. Technical details were lost, so we reengineered a part. I determined the repair requirements by researching the initial installation and worked with specialist contractors to do determine the requirements for overhaul and replacement parts which involved machining the shaft in situ, sourcing the correct bearings to replace, working out tolerances for the shaft, and using laser technology to align the shaft to the 90 year old engine - Overhaul of primary settlement tanks which needed new sludge and scum pumps with connecting pipe work and a complete rewire and new ultrasonic levels sensors which leveraged my mechanical, electrical and ICA skills
