Current Fires Officer, 1St Marine Division G-3 Operations
As an indirect fire support planner for 1st Marine Division we collect targeting information, determine strike criteria and prioritize the prosecution of enemy targets in planned and time sensitive engagement windows. Coordinate with surface to surface and air to surface indirect fire organizations (11th Marine Artillery Regiment and 3rd Marine Air Wing through the FSCC/FECC and DASC respectively) for proper positioning and target execution along specified timelines that are synchronized with the commanding generals intent and scheme of maneuver. Supervise the training, equipping, embedding and tactical operations of 1MARDIV Fire Support and JTACs (Joint Tactical Air Control) Marines for training exercises and deployments. Establish and oversee the use of the MAGTF Fires Center for J-10 network inter service joint exercise training, sustainment training and qualification training in all applicable fire support coordination. Act as the Assistant Fire Support Coordinator in the absence of the AFSC/FSC. Complete all other assigned tasks from the 11th Marines Commanding Officer and 1MARDIV G-3 Operations Officer.

In the absence of the Operations Officer and under the direction of the Commanding Officer the Assistant Operations Officer is responsible for the command and control of nearly 800 Artillery Marines and nearly 100 Tactical vehicles plus rolling stock in order to deliver timely and accurate artillery fire in support of 1st Marine Regiment. As the Officer in Charge of the Forward Command and Control Center (Fwd COC) and collocated Forward Battalion Fire Direction Center (Fwd FDC) generate plans and coordinate the operations of all battalion movements, positioning, firing, massing of fires, resupply of ammunition and sustainment. Collect, manage and relay status reporting of all personal and equipment during tactical operations or realistic combat training. Ensure the requirements of accurate predictive firing are met at all times and supervise the communications, sustainment and defense of the battalion positions. Prior to tactical operations plan training evolutions that will maintain or improve the unit readiness status to meet the directed Mission Essential Task List. Manage update and disseminate the quarterly and annual TEEP (Training & Exercise Employment Plan). Assist the Operations Officer in refining battalion operations plans, orders and appendix’s. Assist the OpsO in ensuring the battalion meets all annual training requirements and supervise the tracking and reporting of performance metrics. Assist or conduct operations planning team meetings with in the battalion and adjacent units. Execute all other task directed by the operations officer, executive officer or commanding officer.

As the Garrison Support Unit Advisor OIC I was the principle advisor to an Afghan National Army (ANA) Colonel responsible for 1st Bridage support functions and Afghan base operations at Camp Dwyer. It was my role to advise the ANA Base Commander how to train and manage all of his personal equipment and funding in order to operate independantly of US and coalition forces. In line with this mission I Iead a team of well trained Marine logistics, Army engineer and Navy Seabee advisors to establish a training center designed to increase ANA skills in the areas of generator maintenance, electrical maintenance, facilities maintenance, water distribution, security patrol and base defense. Using local interpreters we trained Afghan soliders to perform the work without the use of government funded contracts.
