The speech and debate league at the Independent Education Program was one of the most important parts of my life growing up, so the opportunity to be involved as a teacher and program director was exceptionally meaningful. I was (and still am) obsessed with the mission of this organization.Here were some cool aspects of my role:- Taught speech and debate and constitution classes to the coolest kids in the world.- Directed the Constitution Studies Program which included developing two exciting and unique curriculums.I had the opportunity to:1. Speech and Debate/Constitution Teacher- Connect with and coach students during challenging, exciting, embarrassing, and transformative experiences.- Hold space for students while they examined and expressed their political and philosophical beliefs.- Listen to students with compassion when they felt overwhelmed or incapable.- Build strong personal relationships and communicate care.- Make lessons fun by being passionate about learning.- Construct activities and discussions in response to student needs and objectives.- Walk students through intense dialectic exercises in which they formulated and engaged with questions, counter arguments, and hypotheticals.2. Director of Constitution Studies- Produce two unique and engaging curriculums that drove class interest and provided fulfilling experiences for students.- Conduct extensive research on complicated legal issues.- Design countless activities and simulations to make legal frameworks and concepts comprehensible to high schoolers.- Built dozens of hypothetical Supreme Court cases and summarized many more real cases.

Working as a Code Sensei at Code Ninjas was an enlightening experience. I learned a lot about what makes a team work well together and what helps humans progress towards goals. In the program, K-12 students came to our location in Lehi and worked on coding projects, typically games. They started with simple projects and worked their way up to complex games using the Unity Game engine. My role was to offer inspiration and guidance to students as they worked through the curriculum and also offer technical coding instruction when needed. One of my favorite parts of this position was my amazing coworkers who taught me a lot about working together as a team.In my role helping students I:- Offered emotional support and guidance to k-12 students- Used games and activities to direct student attention towards their coding goals- Walked students through technical problem solving processes, enabling them to fix their own code- Developed personal relationships with students and took interest in their personal lives- Interfaced with parents, teaching them about the program and helping them feel included- Worked both one on one and with groups of up to 20 kids

This role happened when I decided to give sales one more try. Much like my last two sales experiences, it was extremely challenging and rewarding. It served as the final chapter of my door to door sales career.

The coolest thing about being an online instructor at Juni was meeting kids from across the world. I taught kids from all over the United States, Mexico, China, India, and Western and Eastern Europe. At first, teaching online was challenging, but over time I learned how to connect with students over Zoom. It was so fun to see students make progress and increase their coding skills. Juni also supplied a wonderful curriculum that was really helpful and project based. I would highly recommend this position.

While I am no longer affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I'm still profoundly shaped by my missionary service. I met, worked, and lived with some truly wonderful people. I conversed with people on the street about their lives. Often I was invited into someone's home to discuss questions of the deepest significance. As a leader in my mission I conducted meetings and trainings of dozens and hundreds of missionaries. I also coordinated logistics for missionwide conferences and improved the systems we used for training. I think I've spent equal parts recovering and benefiting from my time in Oregon. Either way, it's a part of who I am now.
