My favorite activity in the entire world is sitting in economy during a long-haul flight. Window seat, of course. There is nothing better than waking up to an unbeatable sunrise view while eating a breakfast of slightly soggy egg and partially frozen fruit with 300+ of your closest friends. Let me explain. Hi, my name is Matthew Cutler and I am a student at the University of Utah studying Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with an emphasis in Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality Management. I also am studying Occupational Safety and Health. It sounds like a lot, but I'll boil it down to three key takeaways: - I am passionate about social equity, environmental sustainability, and health and wellness, especially within the tourism industry. - I do my best to ensure that everyone is safe and free from recognized hazards as they work. - All my favorite work experience and coursework has centered around helping people. When I entered the workforce, I didn't realize how much customer service would shape my life. I have fallen in love with providing the absolute best service I can to anybody that I interact with in a professional setting. I believe this is what led me to pursue a degree centering around tourism and occupational safety. After all, both of those industries focus on helping people as well. Through my education I have learned and applied many principles of ecotourism, educated my peers on the benefits of leisure in their life, and helped coworkers understand the importance of OSHA and MSHA regulation in their lives. The aviation industry, in my mind, brings all that I love into one spot: a place where I have the opportunity to help and serve others while engaging in a vital sector of the tourism industry and keeping everyone involved safe. Connecting with people, and helping them connect with others while keeping them safe is my passion. Does my enjoyment of economy long-haul flights make sense now?
