I was an educator with San Diego Unified School District for over 16 years. As a classroom teacher, I wore multiple hats. As the STEM Research Teacher, I was the lead teacher and project manager for the NASA Explorer School Program and the Educational Technologist. Under this title, I chaired several successful grant teams, and I was the project manager for the school’s NASA Curriculum across all subjects and grades. As the project manager, I was responsible for managing the $25,000 grant budget and coordinating with the NASA education dept for staff professional developments and visitations involving NASA astronauts, scientists, education specialists, and high-leveled administrative dignitaries. From 2006 to 2012, I successfully:-- I led three elementary student teams in winning a spot to present their scientific investigations at the Kennedy and Johnson NASA Space Centers.-- Placed my school on the map to be one of the top-growing Title 1 schools successfully infusing STEM across the curriculum. -- We increased the number of students who became interested in STEM subjects which assisted them in being successful in those courses.-- We increased the teachers’ comfort level in facilitating STEM instruction across their curriculum.
