I work in acute and critical care with patients who have respiratory complications including asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and respiratory failure among hundreds of other diagnoses. My work varies from day to day: nebulizer therapy, talking to patients who need an empathetic ear, collecting lab specimens, patient education about disease processes and lifestyle changes that may benefit them, ventilator management with therapist driven protocols, policy writing/revision, new employee mentor, oxygen therapy, CPAP/BIPAP therapy, equipment cleaning, among other various responsibilities. We have a broad scope of practice, that is evolving constantly, which makes it an exciting field to be in!

Prepared media/equipment for microbiology labs, served as a mentor for student driven projects, equipment sterilization via chemical/autoclave methods.

Worked in the biology departmental front office. Directed calls as necessary, filing, interdepartmental communications, assisted students and faculty as needed.
