My work ranges from evocative sculptures and installations to thought-provoking embroideries that stitch art and science together, with a more recent exploration into AI and memories, under the project Rachail.com. I aim to make science and technology accessible and educational, inviting audiences to experience and empathize with my artwork.I am a respected researcher in my field, having published my insights and presented them at esteemed institutions like Oxford University. I have also completed successful public commissions for organizations such as the Wellcome Trust and the Eden Project, which was featured in a BBC World Service documentary.In addition to my artistic pursuits, I have a background as a teacher and can engage and educate audiences on various topics. Our web application, Mycelio, is designed to simulate the way ecosystems work together in nature to maintain balance and promote growth.In the aftermath of COVID-19, it is more important than ever for businesses to focus on sustainability. The pandemic has highlighted the fragility of human life and global economies, and companies must now consider how they can align with consumer and government demands for a more sustainable future. This includes considerations such as supply chain fragility, commodity price volatility, and the cost of recycling.At Penca Ltd, we focus on two key areas: enabling businesses to improve and showcase their sustainability and helping them save or increase revenue through sustainable efforts. Through Mycelio, companies can track and score their sustainable efforts, gain third-party certification, analyze key performance metrics, source sharing and circular economy opportunities, and discover shared logistics solutions and secondary market opportunities.We are currently in the research and development phase of the start-up and plan to build a prototype and test it with a customer base in Cornwall within six months. Our goal is to demonstrate the positive economic impact of Mycelio, with its excellent usability, before launching it in the UK. After a successful launch, we plan to enter the European market.

Paper presentation and artist’s talk for ‘Embodied methods: Art and social science in dialogue’ at Oxford University's Insitute of Social and Cultural Anthropology. Ongoing visits to introduce students to the research each academic year and to discuss future collaborative projects.

As a supply teacher, I gained valuable experience in working with a diverse range of students and their unique needs. My role involved covering a variety of subjects, from science to maths, English, and art, across several schools in West and Mid Cornwall. I also spent a significant amount of time working in a Pupil Referral Unit, where I was responsible for supporting students who have been excluded from mainstream education for anti-social behaviour, emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), or school refusal.In this role, I demonstrated my ability to build strong and trusting relationships with the pupils, providing them with the support they needed to access education effectively. My experience in working in a fast-paced environment with complex needs equipped me with the skills to manage and diffuse challenging situations. I excelled in planning and delivering science, maths, English, and art lessons while supporting students socially and emotionally.The role was incredibly rewarding, as I could positively impact the students' lives and help them overcome the challenges they faced. It was also a great opportunity for me to grow as a teacher.

I was part of the Groundwork team at Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange and CAST (Cornubian Arts and Science Trust), responsible for delivering an ambitious season of contemporary art exhibitions and events in Cornwall. My role as a site supervisor involved public-facing duties such as welcoming visitors, sharing information about the works, and monitoring the work of Groundwork volunteers. I was responsible for ensuring the security of the building and equipment in the exhibition during opening hours and was also in charge of switching audio equipment on and off each day.With a strong interest in contemporary art and ideas, I brought a consistent and methodical approach to my work. I had experience and confidence working with AV equipment, experience as a key holder, and could work independently and effectively communicate with the public. I was familiar with data protection and equal opportunities and had excellent time-keeping and organizational skills.My responsibilities included ensuring the building was well presented and secure, evaluating visitors' experience, supporting volunteers, and keeping clear and accurate records. I could stay calm under pressure and was flexible, and willing to work shifts over weekends.

As a visiting and commissioned artist for the Eden Project, I was honoured to create the textile wall hanging "Symbiosis" for permanent public display as part of their human microbiome exhibition. The Eden Project and the Wellcome Trust commissioned the piece to bring awareness to the importance of maintaining a healthy balance within our bodies' microbial communities.Inspired by the analogy of the body being like a geographical area, I depicted the trillions of microbes as hand-embroidered French knots on a two-dimensional figure resembling contour lines found on a map. The vibrant colours represented the major groups of microbes on the skin, giving a sense of their diversity, proportions, and distributions.My work was displayed at the Eden Project and garnered recognition from various organizations, including a feature on the BBC World Service. As a part of my role, I also led workshops for school students on the macro and micro aspects of ecosystems.With a background in textile art and a passion for science, I brought the abstract concept of the human microbiome to life through my artwork. I am proud to have contributed to the conversation surrounding the importance of our microbial communities and am grateful for the opportunity to share my work with the public.

As a visiting lecturer at Plymouth College of Art, I had the opportunity to share my artistic practice and passion for textiles with students in the Fine Art and Textiles departments. I delivered engaging and thought-provoking talks on my work and ran hands-on workshops that gave students a chance to dive deeper into the creative process. With my extensive experience as an artist and my knowledge of the textile medium, I could provide students with valuable insights and inspiration, helping them expand their artistic skills and perspectives. Whether working with individuals or small groups, I fostered a supportive and collaborative learning environment, encouraging students to explore new ideas and techniques and to challenge themselves to grow as artists.

As a Community Lecturer for Cornwall College, I was responsible for planning and delivering adult evening leisure courses in art, design, and textiles. I brought my passion for these subjects to the classroom and inspired adult learners to explore their creativity and develop new skills. I was also a visiting artist and lecturer to the Fine Art Textiles A-Level and degree programs, sharing my expertise and experience with the next generation of artists and designers.In this role, I could use my extensive knowledge of the art and design world and my hands-on experience in the field to engage and educate students. I was committed to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where students could feel comfortable expressing themselves and pushing their boundaries.
