Research assistant job using standard molecular biology techniques including bacterial transformation and plasmid minipreps, as well as protein biochemistry including western blots.

12-week project in Professor St Johnston's lab. The project involved carrying out an RNAi screen of over 40 kinases in Drosophila melanogaster to identify those involved in the establishment of oocyte polarity. Techniques included basic fly husbandry, genetic crosses, tissue dissections, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy.

Summer internship working in Dr Yuu Kimata's group. The project involved imaging Drosophila melanogaster egg chambers and embryos of Nek2 (a serine/threonine kinase involved in the cell cycle) and Vihar (an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme) mutants. Techniques included basic fly husbandry, genetic screening, tissue dissections, genomic DNA preparations, viability analysis, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy.

Summer internship in Dr Raymond O'Keefe's group. The project involved over-expression of a large number of non-coding RNAs in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and screening for abnormal growth. Techniques included PCR, Gibson assembly cloning, heat shock and yeast growth spots.

Nuffield-funded research project with Professor Enrique Amaya's group. The project involved looking at temporal and spatial expression pattern of oxidative stress regulatory genes in Xenopus tropicalis embryos. Techniques included PCR, whole mount in situ hybridisation and light microscopy. For this project, I received a Nuffield Award and a CREST Gold Award.
