Providing basic care for my ad-hoc elderly care recipients and engaging with them, has given me the opportunity to hone my interpersonal communication skills in mandarin though interacting with mandarin speaking clients. Additionally, I have learnt to think on my feet and adapt to varying demands and care requirements of different care recipients. As a part time tutor to four Primary 6 boys in foundation mathematics, I honed my creative problem solving skills to develop a point based incentivization system, conducting weekly short mini quizzes on their weaker topics (e.g. time tables, percentage, fraction). The student is awarded with a small prize if he is able to answer the questions in the quiz accurately, this was surprisingly well-received, and have enabled them to successfully improve in their basic calculations and times tables. According to feedback received by one of my students, he shared feeling more confident in his abilities to complete his school math test after participating in my mini quizzes. To further strengthen the relationship I have with my students, I built rapport by conversing about topics they were interested in, which in-turn allowed me to better understand their motivations to learn and improve.

Through conducting AWWA's Family Empowerment Programme Survey with 3 individuals staying at AWWA's transitional shelter, I was able to hone my active listening skills and communication techniques including probing and paraphrasing to facilitate clearer and more in-depth conversation.Additionally, I practiced my digital marketing skills by assisting in designing their Christmas event's publicity poster. I also assisted my supervisor in conducting door-to-door knocking, visiting various families at the Transitional shelter. The opportunity to put into practice my professional writing skills also came by when I was tasked to take minutes for AWWA's Family Service Centre Monthly Leaders' Feedback Meeting. Through observing the social workers' case discussions, I had the privilege of using real life examples to conceptualize theories (e.g Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, Maslow's hierarchy of needs), concepts and skills I have learnt in my course.
