I am proud to return as the School Counselor at Glendale Primary after 2 years at Heskett Middle School, Bedford City Schools. As the School Counselor for 4 years at Norton City Schools, I served and advocated for students in the Primary, Elementary, and Middle Schools. This led to my being recognized as the 2020 Ohio Elementary School Counselor of the Year by OSCA. I became certified in Chemical Dependency Counseling in 2018, as a College Admissions and Career Specialist in 2017, and in CBITS ( Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools) in 2016, but I also bring a passion for Career Technical Education (CTE). I volunteer with the Ohio School Counselor Association. I also enjoy teaching as a part-time Adjunct professor at Cleveland State University, helping our next generation of School & Clinical Counselors. I was the lead presenter to 600 counselors at the 2024 ASCA Conference on how to engage our families by Throwing an SEL Family Night, and at the 2019 ASCA Conference, showing how a Gallery Walk can be used for Career Exploration in Elementary and Middle Schools. It uses Self-directed Searches to generate RIASEC (Holland) Codes and asks parents/ guardians to help identify characteristics/ strengths in younger students, color codes, pictograms, and photos to help students look at career clusters. Using CTE programs offered by their districts, they imagine how they could build on those skills and licenses. Current CTE students interact with the younger students and practice interviewing skills, while data collected supports Individual student Academic and Career counseling.Please see my attached presentation article featuring the Career Exploration Gallery Walk which I presented at ASCA 2019, the OSCA All Ohio Counselor's Conference in 2023, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, and at the ODE - Career Connections conference in July 2018. I enjoy and connect with students of all ages. I teach as an Adjunct in Comprehensive Counseling Programs and Career Development/ Career Counseling - two of the most important parts of my profession. I bring energy and passion but also hold a quiet calm space to help students, parents, and staff feel heard and understood.Personally, I recently celebrated my 27th anniversary with my husband, am the proud mom of two independent adult sons. I bring my experience of coming to IEP and 504 meetings on both sides of the table.
