As a core nursery nurse, I served as a resource for Mother Baby RNs in the care and management of the newborn. Responsibilities include admission of all newborns to the Mother Baby Unit, precepting all new employees for a 4 week timespan, patient education on newborn care and safety, venous blood draws and gastric lavage on newborns as appropriate, assistance with breastfeeding, alternative feeding methods, and compliance with Baby Friendly Protocols.
