Holds general executive responsibility for the academic programs. Provides strategic and operational leadership as well as oversight for all academic affairs functions. Supports the mission and goals of the University while ensuring the academic integrity of all courses and programs. Provides leadership and supervision for all academic support services, including the library, Center for Academic and Professional Enrichment, Morlan Gallery, Academic Center for Excellence, registrar’s office, Associate Dean, and Office of the Academic Dean. Serves ex officio on the Committee on Programs and Curriculum.

Under the general direction of the President and working closely with Faculty committees and representatives, the Academic Dean is responsible for the recruitment of Faculty and the processes for appointment, retention, promotion and tenure. The Academic Dean is responsible, working closely with the Faculty, for the development of educational policy and curriculum strategy, and, with the Vice President for Finance, for the development of departmental and program budgets.

Responsible for oversight and coordination of the undergraduate curriculum and faculty. Member of Major Administrators, Vice President and Deans, and Senior Staff groups. Oversees faculty governance and serves ex officio on Faculty Executive Committee, Planning and Appointments Committee, Faculty Senate, Faculty Evaluation Review Committee, and Faculty Resources Committee. Supervises one associate dean, faculty grants officer, registrar, director of college writing, directors of first year academic programs, two staff members of the Office of the Dean. Accreditation Liaison Officer for Middle States Commission on Higher Education (most recent reaccreditation 2017).

Teaching repertoire includes Artificial Intelligence, Computer Architecture including Multi-Core, Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Data Structures, and introductory courses. Research on Natural Language Processing, collaboration with Sven Anderson on text simplification. Co-directed First Year Seminar. Service includes numerous hiring committees, program chair, college-wide Curriculum Committee, Planning and Appointments Committee, Faculty Senate.

Taught in both undergraduate and graduate programs in computer science, including one online course offered twice.

Taught in undergraduate computer science program.
