Development of curriculum for Criminal Justice classes in alignment with state-required competencies. Instruct students as an adjunct instructor through the Dual Enrollment program with Blue Ridge Community College. Organize and facilitate Career and Technology Education (CTE) advisory committee meetings. Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding curriculum and student progress and involvement. Plan and conduct instructional activities within the criminal justice field offering students the opportunity to observe, question, and investigate. Establish clear objectives for all lessons and practical applications while clearly and concisely communicating aforementioned objectives to students. Instruct and monitor students in the proper use of equipment and materials to avoid injury and/or damage. Establish and reinforce expectations for behavior within the classroom and lab areas to maintain a safe school environment and prepare students for entering the workforce. De-escalate violent interactions between students and staff members utilizing Crisis Intervention Team techniques. Patrol the school campus to ensure all doors, windows, etc. are secure. Instruct students and community members employing the D.A.R.E. curriculum for elementary and middle school-aged children and community members. Assist school guidance counselor with leading educational and motivational programs to benefit youth within the school. Create and implement a positive reinforcement behavior program with at-risk students to decrease negative interactions and promote positive behaviors. Utilize alternative methods with a physical activity component to divert negative behaviors leading toward violence with an outcome of positive reflection. Assist deputies assigned to patrol with answering calls for service.Document all actions taken while serving as a Nelson County Sheriff's Deputy. File CHINS petitions as necessary regarding students in need of services within Nelson County. Testify in legal proceedings within Nelson County Courts on all levels as necessary. Serve warrants and protective orders. Prepare offense reports, follow up, and document all additional interactions regarding the initial report. Protect and serve the citizens of Nelson County, mainly within a school setting.

Patrol assigned areas of Augusta County while monitoring radio calls, paying close attention to high crime areas, and providing security checks for businesses located within assigned areas. Provide backup to deputies assigned to remaining areas of the county. Answer various severity levels of calls for service. Investigate crimes and disturbances including interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, interrogating suspects, making arrests, and providing detailed documentation of all actions taken. Testify in legal proceedings in Augusta County Juvenile and Domestic Relations, General District, and Circuit Courts. Monitor vehicle speed using radar or Lidar and issue summons or warnings as appropriate. Serve warrants and protective orders. Prepare offense reports, follow up, and document all additional interactions regarding the initial report. Protect and serve the citizens of Augusta County.Case management on felony and misdemeanor cases. Assist in teaching new hires about Augusta County tactics, techniques, and procedures. Serve on the Critical Incident Negotiations Team as a negotiator for individuals in crisis. Assist in training first responders and community members in Crisis Intervention Techniques for individuals experiencing mental health crises. Complete required training to become a grant writer to assist in obtaining grant funding for the sheriff’s office. Assist in training law enforcement recruits enrolled at the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy as a DCJS certified General Instructor. Serve as the point of contact for individuals needing information or service and refer them to the appropriate person or agency. Operate the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) which is interfaced with the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC). Investigate allegations of suspected child abuse/neglect. Facilitate out-of-home placements and emergency removals of children found to be abused/neglected. Interpret laws, policies, and procedures to conduct thorough investigations of alleged child abuse/neglect. Participate in local task force meetings, strategic planning, and outreach services to community partners. Present training and presentations to local organizations and schools in the community. Train new employees in the policies, procedures, and daily tasks as a CPS Investigator. Develop and implement service plans for families to meet identified needs in areas such as physical and mental health, substance abuse, and housing. Maintain a close working relationship with local law enforcement, court officials, mental health professionals, and various community partners to implement services for clients. Provide 24-hour coverage for allegations of child abuse/neglect and respond to emergencies as deemed necessary. Maintain detailed documentation of all interactions with families and community partners for every family assessment and investigation.

Prepare agency prep sheets for Senior Assistant Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General for court proceedings in local Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts and local Circuit Courts. Maintain weekly meetings with clients.Submit weekly and monthly reports of ICMP participant’s progress. Enforce administrative and court orders to collect a debt owed to individuals and state agencies. Locate non-custodial parents using various techniques. Determine and assess child support obligations and health care coverage.Interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations. Manage a caseload of 400+ non-custodial parents while meeting department deadlines. Obtain and assess information through interviews and telephonic interviews. Provide thorough documentation of every action taken.

Managed a caseload of 68 -120 clients court-ordered for both regular and intensive supervision. Provide case management using Evidence Based Practice techniques, such as Motivational Interviewing.
