Ux & Ui MentorDesignlab Feb 2021 - Feb 2022Remote, UsI worked with students 1:1 through the BootCamp coursework. To help them succeed, I:1. Encouraged my students to question the process. If something doesn't feel right or isn't working, I taught them to trust their intuition. Speak up. Ask. 2. We worked heavily on critical thinking. I helped students reframe their approach to design by encouraging them to talk about why they made design decisions. 2. I provided real-world stories and examples of UX tools they were learning and context where they might be used in a real-world scenario and while working with a cross-functional team.3. I provided external resources and links for supplemental learning on different course subjects as needed. I also helped them learn to test their designs without any help or budget.4. I helped students learn how to write a portfolio that would stand out among other junior design portfolios by helping them find paid freelance work and connecting them to legitimate volunteer organizations.5. Whenever I could, I brought students on my freelance projects to work with me and learn to be comfortable presenting their work to stakeholders. 6. I coached students through resume building and interview skills and follow-up communication.IMPACT: Almost 100% of my students found jobs within the first few months of their search. Some of them work at Amazon, Lemonade, Medallia, and others. -

Founder, Product Designer And Ux WriterRebecca Bar Design Jan 2016 - Jun 2021As I learned to transition from customer-centric commerce and e-commerce to digital product design, I started freelancing for a variety of small businesses, startups, and companies small and large.I got a breadth of experience - everything from market research and presentation design for Startups looking for funding to personal branding to wholesale e-commerce sites to app and web app design and everything in between. Most importantly, I learned what I'm good at, what I want to do, and how to build processes around accomplishing meaningful work for people and companies of all sizes, stages, budgets, and other needs. My freelance and agency work taught me that UX means something different for every project. I learned what tools I already had in my toolkit - writing, research, CX design, keen emotional intelligence, and empathy. -
