In 2009 I failed out of nursing school and took a bunch of fluff classes for a semester while I tried to figure out what I should do with my academic career. I then found social work, and the moment I started in social work, I knew it felt like home.Since 2012 I have interned or worked in the field of social work.My work started in direct practice at community mental health agency, pivoted to macro work during grad school at Cleveland City Hall & EY, and then once I graduated, I realized direct practice is where my passion lives.In 2020 I obtained my independent social work license and also felt this yearning to go back to school. It took me awhile to gain the courage to apply but in 2022 I applied to University of Alabama's Doctor of Social Work Program (DSW), and I was accepted. While I have lived most of my work experience in the non-profit world, my true love is private practice. The majority of my work is with the LGBTQ+ community and it is where I will focus my DSW work. My practice is gender affirming, anti-oppressive, and about understanding the way our society and surroundings have a large impact on our mental and physical health. I have written over 30+ WPATH letters for clients who identify as transgender who are looking to have gender affirming surgery, and attend trainings and seminars often to keep my practice up to date.
