My current position in The Surgical High Dependency Unit of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary entails providing specialised care to pre and post-surgical patients requiring close monitoring and 2:1 attention.In my role, I am responsible for in depth monitoring of patients’ vital signs, individual needs, response to treatments and recognising deterioration that may require escalation. To ensure this is completed efficiently, I thoroughly assess each individual using a head to toe and ABCDE approach whilst ensuring an outstanding level of dignity is maintained. I collaborate with a large range of colleagues from the multidisciplinary team at the very early stages of treatment to ensure the best outcome for all patients. Through these times, I offer support and education to families and patients to ensure they understand the process and are well informed of the journey ahead. My position requires me to consistently demonstrate empathy, ingenuity and unwavering dedication to providing holistic patient centred care.This role has allowed me to build on my communication skills, time and stress management and patient advocacy.

I graduated from Robert Gordon’s University in 2020 and decided immediately to begin work as a band 5 staff nurse in the Trauma unit of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. As a dedicated Staff Nurse in the Orthopedic Trauma Unit, I played a pivotal role in delivering high-quality care to patients with complex musculoskeletal injuries and traumatic injuries that required quick attention and vigorous treatment. This challenging and rewarding position involved a wide range of responsibilities, including swift patient assessment with meticulous documentation, construction of appropriate orthopaedic equipment, surgical preparation, supporting surgeons with cast application and pre-op evaluation.This role thrust me into accelerated growth as a nurse, driven by the high demand and intense pressure.

My first position in a firm was as an after-school administrative assistant for Gray & Gray LLP. I worked every day of the week after school until close whilst maintaining a healthy work, social and study life. This position allowed me to develop many skills that I have found to be easily transferable into every day life and new work roles. My key responsibilities included organisation of confidential legal documents, front desk duties and data entry. These responsibilities allowed me to understand the importance of confidentiality, realise how to communicate with diverse groups of people and prompted me to improve on my IT skills.
