About Rebecca Fabiano, Msed, She/Her

For over two decades, Rebecca Fabiano, MSEd, has been a bold and innovative leader in the field of youth development. A natural convener, Rebecca leads with the visionary ability to bring together stakeholders across the public and private systems. She works to fill in the gaps in services to meet young people’s developmental needs, while addressing the shared goals of increasing youth safety, creating workforce development opportunities, and engaging communities. In 2015, Rebecca founded Fab Youth Philly: a youth development organization that provides innovative, award-winning programming for youth, with focus on creating workforce development opportunities for teens.

For example: she served as the lead writer and trainer on National Urban League Career Readiness curriculum (over 450 pages) and participant workbook; the FEGS workforce curriculum and the iMap America youth mapping curriculum. Students will research existing resources for teaching artists, develop lesson plans, learn advocacy strategies, grant writing skills, and participate in direct field experience. Guest teaching artists and community arts administrators will provide presentations and workshops. Course may include field trips.

    Between 2007 and 2016, Rebecca taught in the Behavior Health & Human Service department with a focus on the Youth Development courses. She taught Foundations of Youth Work (YW101) as part of the College's Youth Work Certificate Program. The classes are designed to provide a wide overview of the field of youth development and also address critical issues, including current trends and incorporates journal articles, novels, films, guest speakers and site visits into the syllabus. The Certificate will prepare graduates to work with youth in a variety of youth serving agencies such as community centers, group homes, after school programs and mental health clinics. When completed, the courses may be applied to the Behavioral Health/ Human Services associate degree program.From 2012-2015, in addition to teaching, Rebecca was selected to serve as the Curriculum Coordinator of the Program. In that role, she supported student success and persistence, collaborated with other coordinators and faculty, promoted the program on and off campus, and some administrative duties. During this time, she also led the effort to align the curriculum with the Core Competencies for Youth Workers developed by the National Institute for Out of School Time (NIOST) and the National AfterSchool Association. Because of the nature of her work, she is am able to hire youth work students and alumni in order to give them real-world experience where they can apply what they are learning in class.

In 2004, the program was awarded a highly coveted 21st Century Community Learning Center grant totaling more than $1.2million over five years. A long time champion of the program, New York City Council Member Gale Brewer honored Rebecca in 2006 with a New York City Council Proclamation of Exemplary Public Service to Youth in the Community.
