She was a coalition leader in communications campaigns that helped pass groundbreaking laws to support transgender students and expand early abortion access in California. She led the communications efforts that resulted in the repeal of the Department of Defense combat exclusion policy, which had discriminated against female service members. She also worked with UC Davis students who were pepper-sprayed to tell their stories as part of the ACLU-NC's lawsuit that won a $1 million settlement on their behalf. Additionally, she helped launch Demand Your dotRights, the ACLU's campaign for digital privacy and online free speech.Rebecca was the Communications Officer for Breast Cancer Action, where she worked closely with and was mentored by the late Barbara Brenner. At BCA, she directed strategic communications and led the Think Before You Pink campaign, which changed the conversation around pink ribbon cause marketing. She began her social justice communications career in Washington, D.C., as Press Secretary for a national feminist organization.She has presented at conferences including SXSW Interactive and Creating Change, and has been a guest lecturer at Stanford Law School.
