Rebecca is passionate about creating value for businesses through the measured improvement in environmental performance and social responsibility. She enjoys seeing tangible results from improvements in building efficiency, material use, and occupant comfort in buildings ranging from mixed-use high rise to small adaptive reuse projects. Rebecca is always particularly excited to work on community and educational facilities. She is particularly proud of her work on the LEED Platinum Certification of the Sultana Education Foundation's Holt Center, the LEED Gold Certification of the University of Connecticut's Next Generation Hall STEM-focused living and learning facility, as well as her involvement in several Baltimore City Public Schools 21st Century Schools Program.

Baltimore Green Works is a non-profit that engages the community and supports environmental efforts that better the quality of life in Baltimore. Our signature events include the Sustainable Speaker Series in partnership with the Enoch Pratt Free Library; the EcoBall, a fundraiser that celebrates the harvest of local farms; and the EcoFest that connects community members with environmental organizations, eco-minded local businesses, and artists, all in a fun festival atmosphere complete with live music and great food. EcoFest is only the kick-off to Baltimore Green Week, a jam-packed week of environmental programming from Baltimore Green Works and our many community partners. I am currently developing the latest addition to this suite of programs, Clean Water Kids. This is a 4-unit interactive, educational program that addresses watershed health and community environmental responsibility for children in grades 2-4. In managing these programs, I regularly collaborate and build partnerships with multiple stakeholder groups including, local business owners, city government, non-profit organizations, and community representatives. I also plan and and manage logistics for a variety of events, meetings, and programs for Baltimore Green Works and our partners. I prepare program budgets and engage in fundraising efforts including sponsorship and private funding requests and grant proposals and manage program action plans and monitoring & evaluation. In this position, I develop and implement traditional and social media for marketing, fundraising, and outreach initiatives.

Managed all ex-situ and in-situ research and conservation program involvement in accordance with all federal and state regulations (e.g. USDA, USFWS, etc.) and AZA-accreditation standards. Chaired the zoo’s Research Committee and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to ensure approval process and activities complied with regulations and supported the zoo’s mission and priorities. Developed an environmental sustainability strategy that involved relevant policies, targets, metrics and reporting, facility operations, and organizational conservation initiatives. Built and managed relationships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, environmental consultants, and other stakeholders to further the zoo’s conservation, research, and sustainability goals. Prepared and managed the conservation and research budget. Chaired the zoo’s conservation committee for three years with the responsibilities to: educate and engage staff and volunteers, promote an environmentally responsible culture throughout the organization, research and recommend best practices, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and monitor and report on progress of initiatives. Prepared and delivered regular reports for executive management team and board of directors, annual report publications, AZA-accreditation documents, and grant opportunities.
