The Charles A Dana Center

Manage the Charles A. Dana Center's Higher Education Systems, Services, and Policy advocacy and professional learning initiatives. Includes managing projects advocating on a national scale for improvements in mathematics preparation in the first two years of college including the Pathway to Calculus, statistics pathways, and mathematics pathways for Nursing and Data Science majors. Collaborations include working with the Mathematical Association of America, the American Statistical Association, the American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges and Transforming Post Secondary Education in Mathematics.

Tenure track faculty in Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy - focusing on implementing best practices in teaching for adult learners. Design and manage initiatives for the Science and Mathematics Division that can be supported by private and federal grants. Additional work in the Division included S-STEM, STEP and REU projects funded by the National Science Foundation. Long time member of the Consortium for Promoting Reflection in Engineering Education through the University of Washington. Member of the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium which supports our engineering student rocketry program. Partner with Open the Oceans to provide marine science research opportunities for our students with submersibles!

Worked with the Pathway to Completion Initiative funded through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Seattle Colleges are teaching four different models of accelerated developmental math including Carnegie's STATWAY pathway and a version of Math Emporium. We are also a leader district for Carnegie's Productive Persistence initiative to address our students' non-cognitive issues with learning math: math anxiety, motivation, fixed mindsets, stereotype threat, etc. Faculty teams from at all three Seattle Colleges are participating in improvement science to learn what works for whom and under what conditions.

Provided leadership in grant development and external partner relationships in support of the Community College Programs - Statway and Quantway. Funding partners included the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Kresge Foundation, Lumina Foundation and the National Science Foundation.
