We are now Epsilon Abacus. Epsilon is an all-encompassing global marketing company, a leader in creating connections between people and brands. While the name of our business has changed, the data co-operative that we drive on our members’ behalf will continue to be known as The Abacus Alliance. The Abacus Alliance comprises of over 500 retailers, publishers and charities, who contribute customer transactional data. Their aim? To make marketing campaigns more profitable through data insight.

I am the Accountant for Abacus UK. Key tasks that I am resposible for include:1. Preparing annual financial statements2. Preparing monthly management reports3. Producing budgets and ensuring spending is kept in line with this4. Providing a support service by working with all departments and the management team to help make financial decisions5. Analysing financial performance6. Maintaining the financial ledgers7. Overseeing the AR and AP function8. Quarterly VAT returns

This was my first experience of an accoutancy role. Here I was an assistant management accountant, reporting to the management accountant. I was responsible for the monthly preparation and entries to the ledger, gradually building on my role to take on tasks including the budget and VAT returns.

I took on this role as I was finishing University while I was choosing a career path. Here i was a customer advisor, eventually also taking on some business banking tasks as well
