By integrating the art and science of behavior change and deeply understanding inside and outside influences of behavior, including the social determinants of health, I create strategies and solutions to ensure organizations improve health outcomes, reduce costs, and create a culture to support overall well-being. For 30 years, I've been obsessed with deeply understanding the why of human behavior and designing effective strategies, products, programs, campaigns, and initiatives to change and/or sustain desired behaviors. Using my experience in health communications, marketing, education, behavior change theory, population health, and prevention, I create strategic plans to bring together disconnected stakeholders and data; deliver operational roadmaps that activate audiences; inspire better health through effective campaigns, products, presentations, and initiatives; and track progress and measure success. I speak frequently across the nation on community health transformation, community engagement, strategic health communications, culture change, and population health. Together we can create a culture where everyone can live well and flourish!

In 2022, I co-authored The Food Counter's Pocket Companion as a guide to help people meet their nutrition goals. I was accountable for the vision, direction and operational leadership of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation’s Population Health research, Professional Education and Marketing Communication departments. As part of the organization's Executive Leadership Team, I worked directly with other leaders, the Board of Directors, Minneapolis Heart Institute physician partners and external stakeholders to ensure that the MHIF mission and vision are realized and plans are implemented. I led the development and deployment of the successful #ResearchHer campaign to bring awareness to a 35 year gap in women's cardiovascular research. Also, I led the development of the Rural Health Transformation Center which was designed to disseminate evidence-based community health improvement practices discovered through the award-winning 10-year research demonstration project, Hearts Beat Back: Heart of New Ulm Project.

I was accountable for the overall population health strategic direction and operational leadership for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, including for Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project and other community programs. I collaborated with MHIF leaders and the MHIF Board of Directors, community partners and allied organizations to develop, implement and evaluate population health strategies. I directed the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services that achieved the strategic direction set for the department. I lead the identification and development of business opportunities along with packaging and sales for the department products and/or services.

I provided scientific and operational leadership for nutrition environment initiatives, which included the development and implementation of programs for convenience stores, grocery stores, restaurants, worksites and the community for Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project (HONU). Examples of successful social marketing campaigns included: SWAP IT to DROP IT and SWAP IT to ROCK IT. HONU was a multi-component research project designed to reduce the number of heart attacks that occur in the New Ulm, MN from 2009-2018.
