It’s been a long road and a lot of trial and error that led to me getting a master’s degree in microbiology. I’ve been interested in science ever since taking AP biology in high school. While majoring in biology in college, I discovered my love of lab work. My favorite course was the microbiology lab. It was there that I discovered my love for the smaller things in life. However, it wasn’t until I tried working as a nursing assistant that I discovered how fulfilling a career in medicine could be. Since then it’s taken me a few years to find the right path. I have worked as a nurse assistant, a pharmacy technician, a telemetry technician, and a medical scribe. I even attended medical school for a year. However, none of those felt quite right for me. I took some time for self-discovery after medical school and came to the realization that I wanted to work in medical microbiology. As soon as I made this decision, I suddenly felt like I had found my place in the world and a way to contribute to it.In the workplace, I’m often recognized as a leader. As a pharmacy technician, telemetry technician, and medical scribe I was frequently asked to train new employees. I believe in teamwork and always stress to new employees not to be afraid to ask questions. Especially in the medical field, patient safety is our top priority. I pride myself on being approachable and without judgement when asked a question. You can learn a lot through classes and textbooks, but speaking to someone with experience and picking their brain about certain issues can be invaluable. I often provide my phone number to co-workers and make it clear that they can always contact me with questions, whether I am at work or not.I also pride myself on my dedication and attention to detail. With the positions I’ve held thus far, details were extremely important. The wrong medication, documentation, or heart rhythm interpretation could lead to disastrous results. I’m very organized and able to manage many aspects and small details of a project at once.I am always looking to improve my knowledge and skills. One of my favorite things about science is that it really requires a dedication to a lifetime of learning. No matter how much experience someone has, there’s always room to learn more. I find joy and excitement in this prospect. I am ready to advance my career in a way that allows me to learn and contribute to people in a meaningful way.
