After many years unsatisfied finding a balance between work and home, I decided my passion for sewing and design would help me find the symmetry I needed. I knew my 20 years of self-taught education and experience would not be enough to make my dream happen. Ensuing some life changes in 2007 I became determined to get things started and enrolled in the Portland Community College fashion design program. I know this program is not highly sought or as elite as another in the area but it is a very affordable, informative program with great classes and instructors. In the beginning I found myself somewhat intimidated by the fashion industry in general, but it didn’t take long for me to take hold of all I was learning and become even more interested and excited about the industry.I cannot remember a time in my life when I have loved learning so much. My enthusiasm and confidence for a career and life in the fashion apparel industry has grown considerably.My short-term goal is to become a freelance seamstress & pattern maker specializing in costume and apparel. Long term I would also like to teach younger students, ages 8-18, sewing, pattern, and textile skills.Specialties: My experience has, for the most part, been enabled by friends & family but has consisted of many different aspects.I have done sewing for interior design, dog accessories, purses, countless costumes & clothing for adults & children. I have adjusted ready to use patterns as well as drafted patterns for tall men, regular & petite women.Some areas I would like to practice more in are: pin-up style & vintage clothing, costumes, active wear, mens clothing, tall, petites, & plus sizes.
