-I was fortunate to spend my clinical internship at the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC where I had the opportunity to treat veterans with persistent pain along with a variety of other diagnoses. I learned that each patient’s pain is different. Research shows that pain is made in the cerebral cortex; therefore, using evidence-based practice, patients with chronic pain need to develop an internal locus of control to control their pain.

-Pediatric Neuro Clinical Rotation dealing with children with Cerebral Palsy-This opportunity offered me a unique learning experience working with Early Intervention, Early Childhood, and Assistive Technology fitting for children with Cerebral Palsy and related diagnoses. Further, the rotation allowed me to improve my creativity with interventions and handling skills. In addition, I learned how to better motivate my patients with complex medical conditions.

-Outpatient Clinical Rotation. 50% Manual Therapy and 50% Adult Neuro.-During this rotation I was able to split my caseload, with half devoted to patients with neurological diagnoses and the other half concentrating on manual therapy. I had the opportunity to begin enhancing my manual therapy skills by treating patients with neck, back, and pelvic pain. I was also able to treat neurological patients with diagnoses such as Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Spinal Cord Injury. At the end of the rotation I re-evaluated my strengths and weakness to enrich my learning opportunities.
