About Bex Rae-Evans

I’m a design leader specialising in design and research in the public and third sectors. I also support private organisations with ethical design practice and in projects for social good. Currently contracting as a service designer and user researcher. (Senior, lead and principal levels) I work inside and outside IR35. SC cleared. ICO membership and appropriate insurances held.I’m a senior practitioner with over 15 years of experience. I have extensive leadership experience. This means I’m able to effectively communicate from board level to service user and I understand business requirements and strategy alongside service user needs. I’ve founded and led my own successful design agency Reply and most recently have had the position of Chief Design Officer at Snook. Before then I have built and managed several successful departments within design agencies, on two occasions taking them from loss making when I took over, to highly profitable. I have led teams of practitioners and also been pivotal in leading the direction of the organisations I've worked in. I’ve played a key role in strategy creation and implementation within these organisations. I have a solid understanding of the full agency model - leading in new business, marketing, finance modelling and operations functions alongside the more core role of design direction. I have also been an associate lecturer at universities and am an international speaker on the topic of tech ethics, designing for social change and working with at-risk audiences. Six years ago I founded the Community Association, Tech for Good Live, an organisation that showcases and encourages the use of technology for positive social change through podcasts and events and during lockdown I was the catalyst in bringing together similar networks across the UK under the Tech for Good Organisers Network. I’m well networked globally within the non-profit and civic design and digital worlds.

I managed diaries and booked in meetings. On top of this I was brought in to help design and implement a new piece of project management software, digitally transforming the organisations paper based system. This was a brilliant opportunity for me in my first agency role to truly understand throughly all of the business functions of a design studio, allowing me to transform it to a new, fit for purpose digital system. I then had to train all staff in and cajole them to use it. (beers and pizza helped).
