- Worked on formulating and characterizing LNPs with novel epigenetic editing cargo using microfluidic, syringe pump, and piston pump-based systems at 0.1 - 10 mg batches- Developed new characterization assays for internal use including a plate-based LDLr-His tag assay for protein expression, a fluorescence based assay for membrane rigidity, and an assay to test pKa for our lipid mixtures- Developed novel formulations informed by DOE, and used JMP to analyze the resulting formulation characterizations- Gained cell culture experience growing PXBs, PHH, and PCHs to compare in-vitro formulations

This spring semester course is a part of the Pharm D. program at UT Austin that aims to teach students about formulating and engineering drugs and new chemical entities, to help them achieve therapeutically relevant amounts.

- First project, conducted Fall 2018 through Spring 2019 with a grad student, involved studying the influence of hydrate form on the preparation of carbamazepine amorphous solid dispersion by hot melt extrusion- Second project, conducted summer 2019 with a post-doctoral researcher, involved finalizing tests and stability batches for a new nasal spray product, and developing a canine CBD product- Learned about hot melt extrusion manufacturing technique (HME), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic light scattering (DLS), powder x-ray diffraction (PXRD), dissolution techniques, polarized light microscopy (PLM), High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), laser diffraction, and particle size analysis- Research presented at UT Austin Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium in September 2019- Research won first place abstract and was presented at American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) PharmSci 360 in fall 2019- Research published in "Pharmaceutics", an open-access journal by MDPI, in April 2020- Worked with a post-doc studying the degradation of lactoferrin, and the influence of different techniques, such as thin film freeze drying in comparison to spray drying, on the solubility of the protein, and used dynamic light scattering to analyze our data
