Whilst being a SAP is something I love, I wanted a new challenge. So I've hung up my overalls (mostly...!) and am now tackling the design side of my projects. Once again based in the heart of central London, but this time trying to ensure my customers receive a design that meets their requirements, that is quoted fairly and accurately, whilst also assessing and seeking solutions to engineering problems that may arise during the works, and also looking for opportunities for improve the network's capacity, reliability and resilience.

A move from Faults to Connections - a highly demanding, customer-facing role requiring a lot more knowledge of company and industrial standards and the ability to plan and implement multiple projects across multiple sites concurrently (so far, so good...).

A challenging role within Central London working on a wholly underground, ageing network, in highly congested areas with a customer profile of high-profile businesses to whom each minute without electricity is a loss in profits generated. Predominantly working on LV faults: to ensure that the LV network remains live during an HV fault; restoring supplies as quickly as possible in the event of a loss; and pro-actively repairing faults to ensure the reliability of the network (and making customers happy when it comes back on - perks of the job). Other duties include working with infrastructure engineers to help implement larger network schemes, achieving the yearly maintenance target through planned replacement work or periodic testing of network equipment, and working towards HV authorisation.

As a trainee engineer within Network Operations, my role was to help 'keep the lights on'. Consisting of both office and field work - reacting to, or organising the repair of faults, and becoming an authorised person on the LV network.

To demonstrate to applicants the work that students have done or are undertaking, to inform them of the course, lecturers, facilities and university life.Was chosen to go to China in November 2013 along with two other students to visit Beijing Institution of Technology to give students information on life in and around Preston and to experience the local culture.
