As a mathematics teacher at Incarnate Word Academy, I teach 6th-8th grade students in the Preparatory Academy. It is exciting to work with a diverse group of students who strive for excellence. Currently I teach Algebra I (high school level-both honors and accelerated levels), 8th grade math, 7th grade accelerated math, and 6th grade math. All of our students experience a rigorous academic experience at IWA. My responsibilities include designing and presenting professional training for educators and providing one-on-one coaching. I present educational programs in a remote format (totally online or hybrid). In my role as instructional technology integration specialist, I support teachers as they learn to use available technology to improve their instructional delivery and engage learners. I mentor teachers as they work to develop engaging and meaningful lessons that revolve around the 4 Cs of 21st Century skills: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking. As we work to integrate the 4 C’s into daily and unit lessons plans, our focal point is how the use of technology will impact student learning. I custom design Google and/or iPad training sessions for schools based on their specifications. Many of the tools in Google Drive, as well as web-based instructional apps, help teachers target standards and make lessons more interactive. Assisting teachers in their understanding of state standards as well as how to successfully apply the best practices of instructional technology is a major component of my work. In each classroom coaching setting, I have seen how appropriate and creative uses of instructional technology make teaching and learning more engaging and effective. Schools that have made the investment of providing Google Chromebooks and iPads are looking for ways to help teachers and students maximize their use and prepare students for the future. I have found that teachers want to use technology more effectively, but just need more training, time, practice, and support. My job has been to make the most of the training time they are allotted.

I provided social media services on a contract basis to Align, Assess, Achieve, LLC, a leading educational training company. My responsibilities included searching, selecting and formatting content for their social media outreach. I wrote and posted social media content with the intent of increasing AAA's online presence as well as promoting their mission.

I shared practical teaching strategies, using mostly hands-on manipulatives, for helping children learn number sense and master basic facts. This seminar was geared to educators and parents of students with special needs.

My responsibilities included teaching 5 to 6 classes per day. The subjects were: Prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Honors Algebra II. I was also on the teacher evaluation development committee.

As part of the teacher assessment committee, I used my expertise in the area of teacher training and evaluation to help develop a fair and accurate district evaluation tool for teachers. This committee met for approximately two years. The skills that were needed for this job were: written and interpersonal communication; negotiation; and application of professional experiences (Charlotte Daniels, Praxis III, teacher observation & assessment, as well as classroom experience).

In this position I taught 7-12 graders math and computer classes. The early part of my career was spent teaching 7th-8th grade math, including Honors Algebra I. I also developed the computer courses for the middle school level. I taught computer skills to all students at Edison Junior HIgh. Starting with my 8th year of teaching, I taught at Niles McKinley High School. The courses I taught were Geometry, Algebra I, and Basic Level Math. I was a full-time teacher at Niles McKinley for 5 years. I was also the Math Department chairperson for the last 2 years of my time in Niles.
