I believe in empowering children to fulfill their God-given purpose. How? By delivering an exceptional education that provides both the academic and spiritual training for students to become moral leaders. It’s clear this culture desperately needs them! Having raised four sons and experienced many different schools, I found it’s difficult to find a school that does both well. Education needs to do more than simply teach disparate subjects and fill a child’s mind with information for completing a standardized test. Teaching to a test is hardly an education. Instead, education should address the whole child: mind, heart and soul. My in-depth study and understanding of normal child development, including cognitive development, leads me to fully embrace classical education as the most comprehensive and consistent philosophy of education. It provides the methodology and content to provide children the tools to learn and think for themselves. Truly. And when combined with Christian beliefs and morals, the education of the Mind, Heart and Soul is extremely powerful! Noticeably different.I am passionate about serving children and families as Headmaster of Liberty Classical Academy. I'm also passionate as a speaker and leader regarding educational and public policy issues. and as co-host of Education America with Abigail Johnson, a radio show/podcast on AM1280 The Patriot. Oversight and development of all curriculum, scope and sequence, and graduation requirements; oversight and development of before and after-school programs along with extra-curricular activities; oversight of the athletic director, preschool- director and multiple other directors as the school has grown; and the implementation of standardized testing and college counseling services.

On-Call Speech Language PathologistRegions Hospital (Formerly St. Paul Ramsey Hospital) Mar 1991 - Jul 2000St. Paul, MnOn-call work required filling in for a current staff member during the week and/or working on Saturday's to provide therapy for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation patients while regular staff was out for the weekend. This position entailed working mainly with neurological patients and included more therapy implementation vs. diagnosis since the regular therapist had usually completed the evaluation and diagnosis themselves. Therapy, report and record keeping, family consultations and some evaluation and diagnosis was involved. Communication excellence as well as an understanding of both normal and abnormal cognitive, speech and language skills was essential.

Speech Language PathologistRegions Hospital (Formerly St. Paul Ramsey Hospital) Sep 1989 - Feb 1991St Paul, MnWorked half-time in a job-share arrangement in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. Worked mainly with neurologically impaired patients; especially traumatic brain injury (TBI) and victims of stroke and aneurysm. Position entailed bedside and formal evaluations of speech, language, and cognitive impairments, along with treatment and reporting. Position also required team-work with the other physical medicine and rehab professionals such as physicians, PT's and OT's as well as recreational therapists and often neuro-psychologists. Position included weekly rounds, where cases were discussed on a professional level, family meetings and individual consultations with patient and family members. Communication was critical at all levels for continuity and consistency of patient care. A deep understanding of neurological disorders as well as normal and abnormal cognitive, speech and language skills were essential.
