As an Associate Professsor of Management at the University of San Diego, I conduct research on the unintended effects of policies that try to influence entrepreneurial outcomes in complex institutional environments. I have over 10 years of experience in studying and teaching entrepreneurship, organization theory, and innovation, and I hold a PhD in Management Science from Stanford University.My research aims to inform policy and practice by showing how institutional change affects who starts new ventures, how they perform, and what secondary effects they generate. I use natural experiments and data analysis to examine the implications of institutional reform in Japan and the US, two contexts that offer rich opportunities to study entrepreneurship and innovation. I have raised over $1 million in private funding to support this research, and I collaborate with leading scholars and practitioners in the field. I am passionate about advancing the knowledge and understanding of entrepreneurship and institutional change in other contexts as well.
