In 2020 some of the great parts of Consensys came together to work more closely together. I stepped in to help with this as the CTO across the organization. In this role I've been helping the teams come together and find the right ways to win together. This has involved things like API guidelines, leaning in to support team topologies, and setting up appropriate forums for the right technical people to work together. I was also involved in specific technical roles, collaborating to support the launch of Palm NFT Studios and the Palm Network. I've also been deeply involved with the efforts to ensure we are building the best tools for developers.As the team at Consensys has successfully been winning as a group, I'm building a successful OCTO (Office of the CTO), focussed on building the foundational technology required for Consensys to deliver on its mission and vision.

I led the product organization for PegaSys. Taking on this role, growing out the product management team, to support the technical team which grew from 8 engineers to 30. I joined Consensys in the protocols group (PegaSys) as a technical lead for a scrum team.We we focussed on enterprise ethereum and use of the quorum client. We implemented a private transaction manager in Java(Orion), and performed other enterprise related work, ensuring that enterprises could use ethereum based technologies.

I'm continuing my passion for building usable web-based software solutions, using the right technology for the job.I utilise Agile and Lean techniques for building software, which gets deployed to the cloud. I do this while having fun, utilising my important skill of 'Laughs like the Count'.My current technologies focus around Ruby, JavaScript, and PostgreSQL, with related variants. In addition to this stack, I've been doing some significant work with Serverless Architectures, building applications that are deployed to Amazon and Google NodeJS based serverless environments(Lambda/APIGateway and Google Cloud Functions).Apart from software development, leading projects and building APIs, some of elements of interest in my contracting time have been implementing an OAuth based authentication gateway, and working on the Australian HL7 FHIR for Provider Directory Services standard.In my spare time I've had opportunity to give guest lectures at Griffith and QUT talking about Ruby/Ruby on Rails, and I present at various local user groups. For fun I've been reading up and listening to information about Merkle trees, and all things blockchain. It has been great to think about the beauty and potential of the blockchain for all sorts of interesting computer verifiable transactions.

In December 2010 I was promoted to a Director Role at Ephox, taking on a mix of people management and technical leadership. The role has involved building strong technical relationships with partners, reviewing technical purchases, and leading development. The technical details have moved from almost straight JavaScript with TinyMCE (utilising some server backend tech), to building cutting edge rich web apps using JavaScript, Java and Ruby with the suitable mix of additional buzzwords. I'm responsible for all levels of the product development, helping to design and code all layers in the architecture and getting involved with setting the direction and planning.

Software Engineer, working remotely with a great team of people building the technology to support yourtutor. yourtutor is a web based application for providing 1-to-1 online tutoring. I'm one of the software guys here, using a great Ruby on Rails based stack to make this happen.Apart from standard Ruby work, there were interesting parts in JavaScript, some Swift, and some interesting use of Postgres.

Built a Oracle and Java application for opening new accounts. I was the buildmaster, DBA, WebSphere guy. In my spare time I was involved in writing Java code from front to back, and involved in Design tasks. This was on a team that ranged in size from 3 to 8.

I was the main programmer for a project with Telstra, and was also involved in doing DBA work for the project, and troubleshooting other projects Oracle problems. I was responsible for all parts of the software development, from architectural decisions to build tasks to customer interaction and requirements gathering.
