Agile Coach placed at Toyota North America working with their IS department as they transform to Agile software delivery. My Toyota partner and I are currently focused on a large value stream consisting of around 15 teams. We are using Scrum @ Scale as the scaling framework. Our duties include teaching, mentoring and occasionally nudging Product Owners, Scrum Masters, team members and leaders as they gain confidence in working the Agile way. We have established Quality Circles (a.k.a. Communities of Practice), Leadership Action Teams and MetaScrums to support the organization at scale. The results: teams are becoming customer focused and delivering on a regular cadence.

As part of the Agile Education Initiative within the Dallas Chapter of the Project Management Institute, developed and presented the Agile 101 course. This four-hour course provides a basic introduction to the Agile Mindset, Values and Principles as well as Scrum Concepts. About a third of the time is spent on lecture, the remainder of the time is spent on exercises. Co-developed the materials with three other coaches; however, two have dropped out so another coach and I are delivering this material roughly quarterly. Plans are underway to develop additional course materials to cover advanced subjects.

Agile Coach for the Branded Cards organization at the Irving location. Delivered Scrum training and initial guidance as new teams were formed (total of 11). Guided product owners in preparing their agile project charter and initial backlog. Planned and facilitated the Release Planning Event where stories were sized and slotted into sprints. Facilitated the first set of Scrum events so teams have a good model to emulate going forward. Engagement with each team lasted 2-4 months; teams are successfully delivering new features over multiple releases (every 1-2 months). Developed a 3 hour leadership workshop to help them create the environment where Scrum teams can succeed.

Project Manager/Iteration Manager for a software delivery team writing custom software for a Fortune 50 company. Organized the day-to-day operations of 30+ member software delivery team. Facilitated the iteration meetings (planning meeting, daily stand-ups, showcase and retrospective). Instituted additional meetings among Product Owners and Business Analysts to prepare the iteration goals and backlog. Managed onboarding of new team members and travel budget. The team delivered increments of functionality every 2 weeks.
